The hidden treasures of moffat county

Expansive vistas and soaring canyon walls are just the beginning. Our riches include Dinosaur National Monument, the wild horses of Sand Wash Basin, and one of the best outdoor collections of ancient rock art created by early nomads. No visit is complete without spotting a bald eagle in Browns Park National Wildlife refuge, or catching site of the nation’s largest migratory elk herd, an incredible sight.

Moffat Country is best known for its pioneer history, with the Museum of Northwest Colorado capturing life on the frontier from the perspective of Cowboys, Native Americans, Outlaws, Fur Trappers and hardworking Families including the homesteaders of the 19th century . You can experience living history at the Wyman Museum and the John Jarvie Ranch, or take your own posse into Irish Canyon where you can live like an outlaw just like Butch Cassidy did. There’s plenty of river rafting, fishing, hiking and stargazing to keep you entertained along the way.
